Uber to tweak privacy policy so that you can understand better

Uber Technologies is all set to tweak its privacy policy so that it can access the location of a rider when the Uber app runs in the background. The change in its policy will also allow the users to make use of some of the special offers. The Managing Counsel of data privacy, Katherine Tassi, said that the users would be able to make a decision whether they share data with the Company.

The company was earlier criticised for the way it handled sensitive information in the “God View” tool that allows the Uber employees to track location of the customers that request for car service. The new policy of the Uber cab will be implemented from July 15. It has been done in accordance to the Hogan Lovell’s review. Its existing policy has been simplified so that people can understand better. It will be available in 23 languages that cover the local language of 57 countries.
As per the new privacy policy, Uber will collect the precise location of the user when the app is running in the background if it is permitted to use the location from its IP address in the mobile OS. It will also access the address book of the customer to facilitate social interactions through its services. Tassi disclosed that such information would be used by the Company so that it can offer new service and features like ordering of food via UberEATs.
