FACEBOOK COUNTS 2 MILLION ACTIVE ADVERTISERS, MOSTLY SMALL BUSINESSES
On Tuesday, Facebook Inc said that the number of its active advertisers had risen to 2 million, that’s a 33% increase if compared to the company’s number of advertisers back in July 2014 which stood at 1.5 million.
According to the company, the majority of the advertisers who are advertising on Facebook are small and medium sized business owners. In addition to that Facebook defined these advertisers as those who have in the last 30 days posted an ad on its social media platform.
"Small business owners are really hard to reach and they are not tech savvy usually," said Sheryl Sandberg who is Facebook's chief operating officer, in an interview. She went on to say that over 30 million small business owners have Facebook pages.
A mobile app was also developed and launched by Facebook for advertisers to easily manage their marketing campaigns on Facebook.
The company also reported that off its advertisers which it newly acquired in the 2014 fourth quarter, 80% started by first promoting their posts.
According to Sandberg, the regions of Europe, Middle East, Africa as well as Asia Pacific represent the fastest areas of growth of small businesses which are using Facebook to advertise.
It’s critical for Facebook to get more and more advertisers to join its platform as the company tries to increase its global share. A year ago, Fourth-quarter revenue for Facebook grew by 49% to $3,85 billion from the same period, with mobile advertising accounting for 69% of the company’s advertising revenue.
