2018 Nissan Leaf - first 100% electric drivetrain

Probably everything has been said about the 2018 Nissan Leaf, especially the fact that it is the first 100% electric drivetrain. After driving it, there are several things to say about it. But first, let's remember a set of facts that still blows us away.

Probably the first thing that we noticed about the 2018 Nissan leaf is that it is bigger and heavier than its 2017 version.  We love the fact that Nissan managed to make it more efficient by improving powertrain and aerodynamics. 

The enhancement in the electric motor (110 kW) and the battery (40 kW) were offered without an increase in price, as it was expected. By the end of 2017, this car was a champion in sales.  In fact, it became the best-selling 100% electric car.  

The following are some of the awesome specs of the 2018 Nissan leaf:

  • 40 percent increase in range to 150 miles thanks to its larger capacity 40-kWh battery.
  • 26 percent more torque, 37 percent increase in horsepower, which provides a more powerful acceleration.
  • Level 1/Level 2 charge cable (standard on SL, available on S, SV)
  • Standard Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).  There is a version with Automatic Emergency Breaking with Pedestrian Detection.
  • 6.6-kW onboard charger.
  • Improved NissanConnect EV telematics
  • NissanConnectSM with Navigation featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ (available in some vehicles)

The 2018 Nissan Leaf also features ProPilot Assist, ePedal, and Nissan Safety Shield.  ProPilot assist is a hands-on one lane driving assistant that can drive through a straight road by detecting nearby cars.  It can make turns but not the very close ones.  The steering that it provides is limited to keeping the vehicle centered on the lane. 

ProPilot Assist also has the ability of stopping the car whenever the car in the front brakes. 

The ePedal brings down all functions for accelerating and stopping into one single pedal.  This could even change the way we drive.
